Tenho a honra de anunciar a primeira edição em Português do meu livro “Mulheres, Cultura e Geometria na África Austral” (2011, 204 pág.), que pode ser adquirida na ‘livraria global’ da Lulu (http://stores.lulu.com/pgerdes), na forma de livro impresso ou como ‘download’.

O livro “Mulheres, Cultura e Geometria na África Austral: Sugestões para Pesquisa” apresenta algumas idéias e aspectos matemáticos incorporados nos padrões inventados por mulheres na África Austral: padrões em carteiras entrecruzadas, trançados espiralados, esteiras tecidas, figuras de barbante, cerâmica decorada, tatuagens e pinturas corporais, e na decoração mural. O livro tem um apêndice da autoria de Salimo Saide sobre cerâmica Yao.

A versão original do livro “Mulheres, Cultura e Geometria na África Austral”, publicada em língua inglesa, em 1995, pela Universidade Pedagógica em Moçambique, foi distinguida, em 1996, na competição do Prêmio Noma para Publicar em África, com um ‘Louvor Especial’.
